Acupuncture and Meridians – 経絡 (KeiRaku)
In Oriental medicine, the mind and body is thought of as a whole rather than as separate systems within the body. Oriental medicine recognises an interconnectivity throughout the body involving meridians which act as pathways for the flow of energy, or ‘Ki’. This means that whatever happens to one part of the body can affect other parts of the body.
Meridians are used for both diagnosis and treatment. Ilan will treat your meridians for any symptomatic areas or blockages. Using meridians for treatments involves targeting areas of deficiency or excess externally and this has a flow-on effect through to the internal organs, emotions and overall physical condition or vice versa.
Balance and harmonisation
In Classical Japanese Acupuncture, the key treatment methods are Acupuncture, Moxibustion (or Moxa) and Shiatsu. The Japanese characters for Acupuncture, 鍼灸, literally translate as needle, 鍼, and Moxa, 灸. Shiatsu is a traditional form of Japanese massage which complements acupuncture and Moxa as part of a holistic approach to treatment. Treatments may involve one or all of these methods depending on your condition and goals.
In a calm and tranquil environment you’ll feel comfortable throughout each treatment, as your body becomes more balanced and harmonised. Each treatment is unique in that it treats your specific condition(s) and treatments can also vary from week-to-week.
If you are interested in living a more Oriental lifestlye through exercise, meditation and nutrition, you can discuss this with Ilan during your treatment.
